On March 6th, 2003, HyobinKwon, aninternational graduate student in China, had a chance to take a look at professor Suh's collection of calligraphic works and literary paintings.

At that time, YaJung Suh Kun Sub was an academic advisor at KeiMyeong University.

Surprisingly, his works reflected both the traditional culture of Chinese art as well as that of modern art. Furthermore, separate Chinese works of art were also included in his works.

YaJung accepted the three religious ideologies of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and employed them in his works. He also used Korean Characters as markings in his paintings.

I was particularly interested in several modern calligraphic works of his: 'MunJaYuHee 1, 2' in 90X60cm, 'Do' in 50X60cm, 'Yei' in 40X30cm and 'HapGaAnLak' in 55X65cm were very appealing as well as profound.

In his works, I was able to discover a deep calligraphic style of painting. These were unconventional pieces of art like those of Oh ChangSeok, who was a great painter of Chinese art.

Professor Suh is skilled at portraying GuYui (birds), HueHwa (flowers and grass) and SanSu (mountains and rivers). Especially, he is great at depicting bamboos and Yuran. His strokes are bold and speedy, and his paintings style shows fullness and excitement without clutter.

Professor Suh' s calligraphic works and paintings are unique not only among Chinese professional artists but also in Korea. I believe he will have a crucial impact on people who have an appreciation for calligraphic works.

I truly congratulate him on his collection and achievements.
